While playing No Man’s Sky I've been turning my favorite screenshots from the game into classic sci fi novel covers. I've made three so far: Ascendant Eden, The Satellite Sun, and The Scavenger of Eden.

This blog post by Alan Jacobs is terrific and feels relevant to people who might or might not be migrating to new media platforms. Exhausted vocabularies: https://blog.ayjay.org/excerpts-from-my-sent-folder-on-exhausted-languages/
This was my first 500-character swish, btw 🏆
Finished Kim Stanley Robinson's New York 2140. One of the great properties of novels, for me, is that they can be good in so many ways, and often, that way will be entirely a novel's own, 100% unique.
That's how New York 2140 felt; almost like it defined its own genre and then executed the demands of that genre perfectly. By certain "external" measures, it was a weird book—plot that wandered? Sentences floppy? A bit gonzo in parts?—but the actual, engaged experience of reading it was wonderful.
I sense a handle/entity switch may be in the offing 🤔
Hmm I was seduced by the opportunity to have a first-name-only handle, a classic blunder; it really doesn't communicate enough, particularly when included in a list of mentions. Just as on Twitter, it's like, who is this cryptic entity?

I've hoped Dan Bouk would post something about these colorful paper wheels ever since he first told me about them. They are tools used by the pioneering statistician Alfred Lotka in the mid-30s to work through the probabilities governing a life; they're like odd, flat dice, with the sides all weighted differently. Does that even make sense? Read Dan! He explains them better! http://censusstories.us/2018/08/11/foudray.html
The scooters have arrived on my street!! I would genuinely love to know what map on whose app was like, "place these… HERE" and why.
